Traveling to Tuscany

Traveling to Tuscany | Val D'Orcia | Terra & Tu

Joining our team for an inside look at our Tuscany Wellness Journey

In anticipation of the 2022 season, the Terra & Tu team had the opportunity to travel to Tuscany. We got the chance to visit the Terme di Saturnia hot springs, view the rolling valleys of the Val D’orcia, and experience firsthand what makes Tuscany so special.

Terme di Saturnia

First up on our itinerary: A visit to the Terme di Saturnia Resort. The only resort of its type of its kind in Italy, Terme di Saturnia was built on natural hot springs flowing from Mount Amiata. The hot springs themselves were incredible — the warm, healing spring water was the perfect antidote for our collective soreness from multiple international flights. We toured the relaxation rooms, a favorite of guests desiring peace and privacy. In the morning, we walked to the Cascate del Mulino, a picturesque series of cascading hot springs located just a short walk away from the resort.

Bagno Vignoni

Next up on our list was Bagno Vignoni. We couldn’t help but stop for a picture as we approached the town, surrounded by beautiful verdant valleys and ancient castles. The hilltop hamlet has been visited since antiquity for its central hot springs, around which the town was built. Everyone from kings to popes has visited the springs, known to alleviate a variety of ailments. Bagno Vignoni is perfect for hiking. On our Tuscany trip, we hike from San Quirico across a picturesque ridge and down into the town.

The Villa

Finally, we had a chance to spend two nights at our private Tuscan villa. Located near Asciano, the villa is the perfect hub from which to experience Southern Tuscany. Situated on top of a hill, our Tuscan villa is surrounded by lush, green valleys extending as far as the eye can see. The location of the villa was perfect, only a short drive to countless hilltop towns. During the day, we joined a local guide for an excursion into Montepulciano. Here, we headed to the De’Ricci wine cellar, known as the “cathedral of wine”. We toured the crypt-like, wine barrel-filled cellar before tasting some of De’Ricci’s amazing wines. The following morning, we again joined a guide for a hike into the monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. Originally founded in 1313, this benedictine monastery remains active and open to visitors today and is a truly hidden gem in the region.

We couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming Tuscany season. You can join us for all of these activities (and much, much more) on an upcoming summer Tuscany retreat!
